Katie's intention as a counsellor is to embody a warm, vibrant, and gentle therapeutic presence. Katie believes that there is significant meaning in creating a safe-space and hopes to help individuals to feel empowered to move towards what is most important to them.

As a Masters-qualified counsellor, Katie draws upon a number of evidence-based modalities, but firmly believes the most important part of the therapeutic work is the relationship she builds with each individual.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHAT IS COUNSELLING?
Counselling is a type of talk-therapy that involves active listening, empathetic responding, and unbiased perspective.  Counselling draws upon evidence-based practices to provide support for a broad spectrum of challenges. It can occur in a variety of ways depending on what that is most appropriate for the individual. Counselling is not medical, and cannot provide a diagnosis. Counsellors do not give advice, but collaborate with the individual to enhance wellbeing and foster self-understanding.
HOW DO I BOOK AN APPOINTMENT?
Book an appointment online here via Halaxy (a secure, encrypted gateway).
If you can not see a suitable appointment listed on Halaxy please email info@counsellorkatie.com.au  with your availability requests.
DO I NEED A REFERRAL?
No, you do not need a referral or a Mental Health Care Plan from your doctor to attend counselling.
CAN I CLAIM COUNSELLING ON MEDICARE?
No, Medicare does not currently cover the cost of counselling services.
WHAT CAN I EXPECT FROM THE FIRST SESSION?

The first session is generally spent getting to know each other. This is so Katie can get a sense of what you might need and how she can be most helpful. It is also an opportunity for you to also get a sense of whether Katie is the right fit for you. Katie acknowledges it can be a bit daunting meeting with a therapist for the first time, and that trust can take time so, sessions will go at your pace. Conversation will be led by what you feel is important to talk about.

HOW MANY SESSIONS WILL I NEED AND HOW OFTEN SHOULD I ATTEND?

There is no right or wrong here - just what you need. It is up to you, and what you require for your wellbeing. Katie is more than happy to work within your schedule, needs, and finances to find what works for you.

WHAT IS YOUR PRIVACY POLICY?

We are committed to protecting your privacy. Your privacy is very important to us and we want you to be assured that our privacy practices are held to the highest standards.  Read more about our Privacy Policy  here.

WHO DO I CONTACT IN A CRISIS?

This is not a crisis service, even if you become a client. If you, or someone you know is at immediate risk or require emergency support, please call triple zero (000) or present to the emergency department of your nearest hospital. If the matter is urgent and you wish to speak to someone you can call Lifeline (13 11 14) for 24/7 support. Read more here.
